I'm glad this was helpful.

I've seen records for several Ebenezer Arnolds in central Connecticut during the 1700s and have never taken the time to try to sort out whether and how they connect to these Arnolds.

There is some evidence that John Arnold of Haddam had a son named Ebenezer. David Field's history of Haddam (1814) has a genealogical Appendix that lists Ebenezer as one of this John Arnold's sons, saying only that he (Ebenezer) was "f[ather] of the late Col. Arnold of Durham." You can find the text of Field's book at https://archive.org/details/historyoftownsof00fiel. But the (limited) information I've found about this John Arnold's wife says that her name was Hannah.

It is unlikely that John Arnold of Hartford had a son named Ebenezer. His will only mentions two sons, John and Henry.
Keith Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09316935439535008529noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2443422156635679388.post-6298178507135084602021-10-25T21:44:51.574-04:002021-10-25T21:44:51.574-04:00Keith, Thank you for this information, which expla...Keith, Thank you for this information, which explains a lot of my confusion! I am looking for the correct John for my line. My most recent direct Arnold ancestor is Hannah Buckley/Bulkely Arnold whose father is Ebenezer Arnold. Ebenezer seems to have a father John and mother Mary. I am trying to figure out which of these two Johns was the father of Ebenezer. Do you happen to know?Amy Pricehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07490406235336707797noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2443422156635679388.post-33923127232326416802021-07-31T13:44:36.571-04:002021-07-31T13:44:36.571-04:00Thank you for the additional information Barry. This makes sense as Hartford wasn't founded until 1635.

From your analysis it sounds like another place where the owner of the bible drew the wrong genealogical conclusions.Keith Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09316935439535008529noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2443422156635679388.post-57110992791111762152021-07-28T21:50:46.045-04:002021-07-28T21:50:46.045-04:00Thanks for sharing this information, especially ab...Thanks for sharing this information, especially about the family bible. I just wanted to point out one other reported discrepancy that casts more doubt on the credibility of the bible information: it supposedly contains the following text, taken from the FamilySearch profile of Lucy Arnold (https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/L38Y-95T):

"The John Arnold, (son of Serg't John) born July 8, 1715, lived in the same place as his father, had married about 1740 or a little later, Lucy Wadsworth, dau. of Thomas Wadsworth, Sen. This Thomas Wadsworth was descendant of Wm. Wadsworth in Hartford in 1626, an emigree. The Hockanum Wadsworth lot was next north of the Arnold lot, and was given to Thomas by his father in 1675. Thomas Wadsworth, Jr., brother of Lucy, the wife of John Arnold, Jr., married Sarah, sister of John. Sarah (Arnold) Wadsworth, died in 1778."

This is provably confusing generations of the same family. The Thomas Sr. granted land in 1675 would have been born by 1654, so was the husband of Elizabeth Blanchard. The Thomas Jr. mentioned would seemingly be referring to his son, but the husband of Sarah Arnold was his grandson. So his daughter and grandson could not have been brother and sister, as the excerpt seems to be claiming. In fact, Lucy was Lucy Case, as is proved by a 1639 deed from John Arnold and wife Lucy that states explicitly she was "Case" before marriage.Barryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08987997757680563742noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2443422156635679388.post-26812027530359236812018-08-25T08:32:44.154-04:002018-08-25T08:32:44.154-04:00Article updated to include Mayo Purple.Article updated to include Mayo Purple.Keith Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09316935439535008529noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2443422156635679388.post-88507517656211922122018-02-22T22:47:48.451-05:002018-02-22T22:47:48.451-05:00Thank you for the comment. From the little I've read about William (mostly newspaper articles about his marriage and separation from Olga) he seems an odd bird. I've had more luck learning about his brother Max's descendants, some of whom I've written about here, and about his sister Kate's descendants. She was my great-great-grandmother. Eventually I'll get around to posting more of that.

I'd by happy to hear more about your family, or to share what I've learned about the Jareckis. I am enjoying reading your information about the family stories. My grandfather was their son, Eugene Albert Jareckie (mechanical engineer). His brother was Alexander Morris Jareckie, a musician and lawyer. Olga moved in with Alex upon separation from William. My father, David Spelman Jareckie met his grandfather (William Jareckie) one time. My father was quite young but at the time and got the impression that his grandfather had zero interest in meeting his grandchildren. He said it hurt his feelings that his grandfather would barely look at he and his siblings let alone say anything to them. Dave could also tell that William and Eugene did not have a relationship. They were cold towards one another. I am not sure where the meeting took place. I will ask my uncle if he recall the introduction. In the meantime, Olga's father, Albert Frank married a wealthy (but from what I can piece together) disowned member of the Russian royal family. Angelica Emilie Von Wurttemberg. Very little information can be found about her. Angelica died at the age of 29 years, the same time as her infant daughter, also name Angelica Emilie (she lived only 2 days). The mother and daughter were buried the same day. Albert never remarried. Anyway, we have some interesting ancestors, right? My impression from family stories is that William Jareckie and his son had a strain relationship, whereas Eugene and his mother Olga remained close. I do not think that William and his son, Alex had a good relationship either. Once again, Alex took in Olga at separation time. When Alex died in 1962 my grandmother told her children not to attend his funeral, but at least one of them attended anyway. Sounds dysfunctional, probably because of ill feelings somewhere along the way. My instinct, and I have nothing to found this on, is that Alex was a lawyer who used his profession in a non-professional way somehow clouded by practices that were disreputable. Again, something I can ask my uncle about. This may have been the point when the name of Jarecki changed to Jareckie. I am guessing that William changed his last name because he was embarrassed by his son, Alex and did not want to be associated with him. But his is speculation on my part. I could go on and on but do not have the time at the moment so I will spare you.
